It is reported that the former El Salvadoran President Antonio Saca and six of his subordinates were pleaded guilty to crimes related to money laundering and appropriated public funds which they committed during presidential term.
It is noted that the amount of embezzled money is estimated at USD 301 million.
Mr Saca hopes that his confession of guilt will allow him to spend in prison not 30 years, but only 10, in case of a conviction. The prosecutor's office also demanded that Saca to return USD 25 million to the State.
Recall that Saca was the President of the Republic of El Salvador from 2004 to 2009. He was detained in October 2016.
