National team has entered tournament for the first time in history, informs xsport.ua.
Men’s water polo team of Ukraine applied for World League 2018/2019.
World Water Polo League is a commercial competition of national teams under the auspices of the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
Among men’s teams held since 2002 with the aim of the popularity of water polo in the world.
Valeriy Zavizion, the head coach of the Ukrainian team, commented on application of our team in tournament:
«Since we did not qualify for the European Championship final, we still have money, thanks to which there is an opportunity to organize training camps this year. So they decided not just to hold two or three gatherings in Kamenskiy, playing among ourselves, as we usually practice, but to give the children a real experience. Of course, we have little chance in this tournament; the league is very strong, of all the participants only Malta is about our level. But at least we recall that Ukraine is. Nobody invites us for a long time; there is no Ukraine in any calendar of competitions under the auspices of LEN (European Swimming League). It’s time to show up and play with strong teams. We last met with a rival of this level in 2013 – with Spain in the playoffs for reaching the final of the European Championship».
