This is the first time the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in three countries.
Such a decision was made within the framework of the Congress of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) in Moscow on June 13.
«Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Football today is the only winner», – said Carlos Cordiero, the president of US Soccer.
The «United» bid of American countries received 134 votes; one delegate abstained from voting.
Another candidate – Morocco received 65 votes.
In the 2026 FIFA World Cup can participate 48 teams. The tournament will be held in 23 cities.
All cities are already have stadiums, so the infrastructure costs is not laid in the bid.
The United States is to host 60 of the 80 matches, while Canada and Mexico will get just 10 matches each.
Note that FIFA World Cup 2018 begin in Russia on Thursday, June 14.
