President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a law changing the process of rehabilitation of victims of repression of the Communist totalitarian regime, – reported Press office of the President of Ukraine.

The President signed the Law «On Amending Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Improving the Procedure for Rehabilitation of Victims of Repression of the Communist Totalitarian Regime of 1917-1991». The newly adopted document clarifies some previously undeveloped issues related to the process of rehabilitation of people. The amendments made to the law will improve the situation with the realization of the legitimate rights of former political prisoners and repressed persons.
The law updated the definition of victims of repression. Relatives of persons repressed by the communist regime were included in the new category. According to the law, the rehabilitation procedure, in each case, will considered individually, taking into account all circumstances. Now not only representatives of the authorities, but also public associations working with the relevant subjects, are allowed to consider the documents.
Among other things, the law provides creation of a National Commission for Rehabilitation at the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
Earlier «The Journalist» reported that in the year 2017 world has become more defamation, repression and violence against human rights defenders.
