United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker has said he supports a direct dialogue between Volodymyr Zelensky, who won the second round of the presidential elections, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Volker said this in an interview with PBS NewsHour.

Volker stressed that he shared the position of Zelensky about the conflict in Donbas, when he said that no one has an answer on how to stop President Putin, but it is necessary to continue negotiations to achieve a truce.

“I think what he [Zelensky] has said about the conflict and about his approach is absolutely correct so far. He firmly supports the Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He wants to return the land back. He is not going to be giving that way,” Volker emphasized.

“It is important for Ukraine and Russia to have direct discussions, and therefore, I think his desire to speak to Putin is a right thing, not a bad one,” the diplomat added.

Also, the US special representative believes that Zelensky’s victory in the elections in Ukraine could create a new opportunity for dialogue with Putin.

As The Journalist reported, Volker presented a website to counter the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
