The US Senate (upper house of Congress) proposes to impose sanctions against 24 agents of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation for the seizure of Ukrainian seamen and ships in November 2018.

According to the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, a bipartisan group of US senators submitted a draft law to protect America’s security from the Kremlin’s aggression.

“The document is aimed at tightening economic, political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation in response to Russian intervention in the world democratic processes and aggression against Ukraine, including in the Kerch Strait,” the report says.

"According to the bill, it is proposed to introduce sanctions against two dozen FSB agents involved in the attack on the Ukrainian Navy ships in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018 and seizure of their crew; against Russian shipbuilding industry in case Russia will violate freedom of navigation in the Kerch Strait and anywhere in the world; against development of oil fields on the Russian Federation territory and Russian state energy projects outside the country," the message stated.

In addition, according to Voice of America, US senators, representing both the Republican and the Democratic Party, will present a bill designed to punish Russia for interfering in the US presidential election in 2016, as well as for aggression against Ukraine.

Sanctions are directed at Russian banking system, energy sector and the external debt service system.
