Academician Anatoliy Zahorodniy, director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics, became the President of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine. He was the youngest candidate for the post of head of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, NAS press service reports.

Anatoliy Zahorodniy candidacy was backed by 426 voters. He is a theoretical physicist. Previously, he was Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

There were four candidates for the elections: a scientist in the field of physics, chemistry, biology, technology of water, chemical kinetics Vladyslav Honcharuk (79 years old); academician-secretary of the Department of Biochemistry, Physiology and Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Serhiy Komisarenko (78 years old); scientist in the field of materials science, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Vladimir Semynozhenko (70 years old); Anatoliy Zahorodniy, director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (69 years old).
