Avakov: MIA sent additional forces and aviation to overcome consequences of floods in Western Ukraine

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs sent additional forces and aviation to overcome the consequences of floods in western Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to Avakov, the Ministry of Internal Affairs units carry out evacuation of people, air and ground monitoring, riverbank strengthening, pumping and drainage of water.

Avakov noted that more than 1,500 police, rescuers and guards have eliminated the effects of bad weather since June 22 in Western Ukraine. In particular, 110 guards of the mountain patrol company were dispatched to monitor the situation.

“About 400 people have already been evacuated from the region, three people became victims of the weather. I’ve decided to send subordinate forces to these areas: 150 military of the National Guard, 4 H225 and Mi-8 helicopters, military aircraft. More than 1,200 kg of food and water were delivered. In addition, we will attract small aircraft for air monitoring – Diamond planes of the State Border Service of Ukraine. According to the forecasts of the State Emergencies Ministry, heavy precipitation will last a few more days,” Avakov noted.
