Barbed wire, trenches and surveillance cameras: Ukraine building an ‘intellectual border’ with Russia (PHOTOS)

From April 1, Ukraine starts active work on the implementation of the planned measures on building engineering and technical arrangement at the Ukrainian-Russian state border.

It is reported by the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine (SBGS).

The work began on the section of the border in the Luhansk oblast: contracting organizations carried out preparatory work for the construction of lateral roads, barriers and anti-vehicle moats.

“Currently, 6.3 km of the Lozno-Oleksandrivka border service department site is equipped with of obstacles with the Egoza-type spiral (barbed wire), as well as more than 13 km of anti-tank ditch,” the border service reported.

Also, work is being carried out on the equipment of the video surveillance and control system, the construction of passages through complex or non-standard sections of terrain at the Zolochevsky district site of the Kharkiv oblast.

In addition, work is underway on the reconstruction, construction and arrangement of facilities in the Chernihiv oblast. There will also be equipped state border within the Sumy oblast.

The SBGS remind that the system of “intellectual border” combines technical, engineering and fortification innovations in order to maximize control over the state border line and prevent its violation. The deadline for the implementation of the plan is 2021.

The plan provides for the allocation of 400 million UAH from the budget for 2019. During 2015-2018, UAH 1.3 billion was allocated for the implementation of the plan.

As The Journalist reported, in connection with the presidential election, border guards have increased security measures at the administrative border with the Crimea.
