Beirut protests: Lebanese prime minister, government resign

Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab has officially announced his resignation and the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Daily Star newspaper reports.

Earlier, the Minister of Health Hamad Hasan announced that government’s resignation will soon be announced, Reuters reports.

Recall that mass protests began in the city after the devastating explosions at a warehouse in the port of Beirut – demonstrators called on the government to resign. People believe that the authorities are responsible for the explosions, because they did not provide the correct conditions for storing of ammonium nitrate.

According to the latest data, the explosion killed at least 160 people and injured about 6,000.

The blast wave destroyed a huge number of buildings, smashed windows and doors. The building of the international airport was damaged. The explosive blow was felt even in Cyprus.
