The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine recorded the migration of butterflies over the past weekend in Kyiv and Oblast, known as Vanessa carduiin Latin. This is reported by the press service of the Department on the Facebook page.
“In fact, you saw sunflower thistles, and this butterfly in Ukraine is sometimes called chortopolokhivka. It is a well-known flyer of migratory species. Not long ago, these “tourists” saw the landscapes of North Africa, and now they are traveling north to be back to Africa in the fall,” the message says.
During migration, the speed of moving butterflies can be up to 50 km per hour and fly up to 500 km per day.
It is noted that the reason for such flights today has no scientific explanation.
