Deputy General Prosecutor of Ukraine – Chief Military Prosecutor Viktor Chumak has said that the Military Prosecutor’s Office will be part of the Prosecutor General, and not the part of the Ministry of Defense. He said this in an interview with the ArmyInform news agency.

He noted that military prosecutors are no longer subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, and added that they would now be civilians and would be completely subordinated to the general prosecutor.

“Military prosecutors are no longer subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. And most definitely the prosecutorial “conscription” from the military department will no longer be valid. These people will be civilians and will be completely subordinate to the Prosecutor General. The military prosecutor’s office will be part of the Prosecutor General’s office, not the Ministry of Defense. Prosecutors will also receive all types of security at the place of work,” Chumak said.

Chumak noted that this is a rather lengthy process, and it will end after the specialized garrison prosecutors will be formed.

He also added that the military prosecutor’s office will continue to investigate the same cases in relation to war crimes, crimes in the field of national security and defense, in the defense industry, at state enterprises and in military units.

As The Journalist reported, Chumak intends to reform military prosecutor’s office within three months.
