Due to the decline in tourism amid the coronavirus pandemic, the countries of the world have lost USD 320 billion, according to a press release from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

To UNWTO data, from January to May 2020, the number of travels decreased by 56%, or 300 million tourists, compared to the previous year.

In connection with this situation, the country lost USD 320 billion in revenues from international tourism, three times more than the loss during the 2009 economic crisis.

According to the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili, these data indicate the importance of an early recovery of the industry, while guaranteeing the safety of tourists.

“Governments in every region in the world have a dual responsibility: to prioritize health care while protecting jobs and business,” he said.
