The White House has released a reconstructed transcript of US President Trump’s phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The conversation took place on July 24 and lasted 30 minutes – from 9:03 to 9:33 of local Washington time (from 16:03 to 16:33 in Kyiv).
During the conversation Zelensky and Trump criticized former US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who headed the US diplomatic mission to Ukraine in 2016-2019.
Trump spoke negatively about Yovanovitch, saying she is the person from whom one should not expect anything good.
In his turn, Zelensky said: “It’s good that you were the first who tell me that she was a bad ambassador, because I 100% agree with you. Her attitude towards me was far from the best, as she admired the previous president (Petro Poroshenko – ed.), and she was on his side. She would not have perceived me well enough as the new president. ”
In addition, Trump said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel does nothing for Ukraine.
“I will say that we do a lot for Ukraine. We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time. Much more than European countries are doing and they should help you more than they help you now. Germany does almost nothing for you. When I spoke with Angela Merkel, she speaks about Ukraine, but she does nothing,” Trump believes.
At the same time, President of Ukraine agrees with Trump, saying that “you are absolutely right. Not only 100%, but actually 1000%, and I can tell you the following: I spoke with Angela Merkel, and I met with her. I met and talked with Macron, and I told them that they did not do as much as they should do on the issue of sanctions. They do not enforce sanctions. They do not work as actively as possible, how they should work for Ukraine,” Zelensky replied.
Trump also asked Zelensky to study the case against the son of former US Vice President Joseph Biden Hunter Biden.
“Another thing, regarding which there is a lot of talk, is Biden’s son. Biden has stopped the prosecution, and many people want to know about it. Therefore, everything you can do with the Prosecutor General will be wonderful,” Trump emphasized.
At the same time, Zelensky promised that after the new Prosecutor General of Ukraine will be appointed, this case will be studied, and Ukraine will work on an investigation.
