Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has solemnly opened the exposition “Mikhailivska Square, 1” at the Ministry. The Journalist reported with reference to the press center of the Foreign Ministry.
“House on Mikhailivska, from which the whole world is visible” – in the early 2000s, this title of a book about Ukrainian diplomacy definitely branded the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From its windows, you can actually see more than the world. They show the very history of Ukrainian diplomacy, the fate of people who dedicated their lives to it, and the dramatic and sometimes tragic fate of Kyiv and our state,” he said at the opening ceremony of the exposition.
The minister said that Nikita Khrushchev once sat in the office, the door of which is now decorated with a sign “First Deputy Minister”, and from there he ruled Communist Party of Ukraine.
“It’s hard to believe, but the building of the Foreign Ministry is not even half of the monumental architectural concept that the Soviet government of the 1930s planned to implement in this place. It was an era when Stalin and his comrades-in-arms destroyed the Ukrainian people with one hand with the Holodomor-genocide, and with the other they ordered them to perpetuate their own and party greatness in the architecture of the Empire,” the diplomat said.
According to him, visitors to the exhibition will be able to learn the history of the building and see the unique competitive proposals of the “Government Center” – a large-scale architectural project of the 1930s, which is supposed to connect Sofievska and Mikhailovska squares into one imperial forum. For this purpose, the Bolsheviks destroyed the Mikhailovsky Golden-Domed Monastery. The only implemented part of the project is the modern building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The exhibition in Ukrainian and English is located in the front hall of the department.
