Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created the cleanest laser in the world. About this reports Naked Science.
The device created produces a laser beam that changes less with time than any other laser ever created. The line width of the new laser is only 20 hertz. Scientists managed to achieve this effect by using two meters of fiber in the device – this material produces laser light with a low line width. In addition, laser constantly checks its current wavelength compared to the previous length and corrects errors that occur.
It is possible to use a pure beam in gravitational-wave sensors located in space.
