Estonian government has adopted the order to impose targeted sanctions against some Belarusian officials. The restrictions introduce a ban on entering Estonia for persons responsible for electoral fraud, violence and human rights abuses. The government decree will enter into force in accordance with the general procedure, ERR reports.

Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas has noted that the people have the right to freely choose their own path.

“The only way for this lies only through truly free and independent elections,” the message reads.

Estonia introduced sanctions jointly with Latvia and Lithuania.

The European Union plans similar targeting sanctions.
