EU leaders agreed to prolong economic sanctions against banking, financial and energy sectors of the Russian Federation for another six months, the spokesperson of the EU President, Barend Leyts, said.
According to the European Council official statement, EU leaders at the meeting in Brussels discussed the issue of sanctions against Russia after the Normandy Four summit, held on December 9.
According to Ukrinform, the EU has confirmed its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Also, the President of the European Council Charles Michel noted, “they have a discussion regarding Russia and Ukraine.”
“We were informed about the results of the Normandy Four summit, which took place last Monday in Paris. Emanuel Macron and Angela Merkel updated information regarding the situation. We extended the sanctions for another six months, because the implementation of the Minsk Agreements remains important. We will continue to observe this,” Michel said.
