EU to allocate USD 3.4 mln to facilitate reform of Ukrainian parliament

The European Union, within the framework of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will allocate USD 3.4 million for the reform of the Ukrainian parliament within the next two years. The reform aimed to improve the legislative process and parliamentary control, increase the institutional capacity of the VR and its Staff, in increase transparency and dialogue with society. This was reported by the UNDP representative in Ukraine Dafina Gerchevaya, Ukrainian News reports.

She stressed that the key point of this program is to support the capacity and functionality of the secretariat in the work of the so-called reform office.

“The Secretariat is the backbone of any parliament in any country and we are obliged to ensure that this skeleton has the right structure, that there are properly and transparently established processes and that people who can accumulate this knowledge work, transfer it, control, coordinate the process in the Parliament,” the UNDP representative said.

She also noted that in the framework of the project on reforming the Parliament, the UN intends to conduct internships for newly elected Verkhovna Rada deputies.
