EU, Turkey call on Washington to lift sanctions against Iranian oil imports

EU Commissioner for Climate Miguel Arias Cañete stated that the EU is concerned about the final entry into force the US sanctions against the Iranian oil sector.

The Iranian oil imports embargo pose a threat to preserving of the agreement with Tehran on the nuclear program.

As long as Iran continues to abide the terms of this agreement, the European Union will also support it, the EU Commissioner stressed.

In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu called on the United States to reconsider the decision to resume sanctions, DW informs.


“The decision of the United States has a negative impact on everyone, whichever way you look at it” said the minister in Ankara.

According to the Foreign Minister, Turkey would not find alternative sources of oil supplies in such a short time.

At the same time, US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry said that Tehran has connections with terrorist organizations, and there is no rule of law in Iran.

As The Journalist reported, Iran may withdraw from Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons over Washington’s sanctions.
