To EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell the European Union does not recognize the results of the elections to the National Assembly of Venezuela, in which the Great Patriotic Pole bloc is in the lead, international French radio RFi reports.

The Great Patriotic Pole bloc includes the ruling United Socialist Party under the leadership of the current president, Nicolas Maduro.

“Lack of respect for political pluralism, exclusion from participation in elections and prosecution of opposition leaders prevent the EU from recognizing this electoral process as credible, comprehensive or transparent, and its results reflect the will of the Venezuelan people,” Borrell said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

Let’s remind that the parliamentary elections were held in Venezuela on December 6. According to preliminary data, the party bloc of Venezuelan President Maduro has gained control over parliament.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido refused to participate in the elections and called on his supporters to boycott the vote. Representatives of Canada and the United States also announced their intention not to recognize the legitimacy of the elections in Venezuela.
