The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oksana Markarova has criticized the National Bank for insufficient efforts to curb the appreciation of the hryvnia. Markarova wrote about this in a comment under the post of member of the Supervisory Board of PrivatBank Roman Sulzhyk.
Markarova supported Sulzhik claiming that strengthening of hryvnia could be used in order to accumulate reserves, lower interest rates (in particular, discount rates) and remove all restrictions on capital flows in the country. According to Sulzhik, the inaction of the National Bank in restraining the growth rate “borders with criminal negligence.”
Ukraine’s national currency significantly strengthened in the last few months.
