Former MIA employee spying for the Russian FSB

Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have nabbed a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) charging him with spying in favor of the Russian Federal Security Service.

This was reported by the SBU.

“A resident of the city of Zaporizhia, a former employee of the internal affairs bodies of Ukraine, while on a visit to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, was recruited by an operative of the Russian FSB,” the department said.

On the instructions of the “supervisor,” the agent, through his personal contacts, would collected intelligence information on the socio-political and economic situation in Zaporizhia. He handed over the information received to a representative of the foreign special service when leaving for the temporarily occupied Crimea under the fake pretext of family issues.

SBU officers have documented the facts of the perpetrator’s illegal activities. During the authorized investigative actions, law enforcement officers found physical evidence confirming his illegal activities.
