Vice-President of the European Commission, European Commissioner for the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič stated that the new transit agreement natural gas through the territory of Ukraine, which will be signed after 2019, must correspond with European law.
«I am sure that gas transit after 2019 should be commercially viable and, of course, fully agree with European legislation. Because it guarantees that the relationship is transparent», the vice president said.
According to Šefčovič he believes in a firm readiness on both sides to reach an agreement on the outcome of the talks.
«We must begin a serious search for an answer to the question: will we have an agreement for a long period on the transit of gas to the EU via Ukraine. This worries everyone interested in this topic. We know that Russia wants to continue to be a competitive supplier, and Ukraine is a competitive transit country. A big delegation participates in the negotiations from all sides», said Šefčovič.
As «Journalist» reported US President Donald Trump said that the US and Russia will compete in gas supplies to Europe.
