Germany intends to follow promises and increase her defense spending, as was determined at the NATO Welsh Summit in 2014, Ukrinform reports.

“We, like all partners, have committed ourselves to contribute and move towards the goal. Then we concretized it within our national ambitions,” said the official representative of the federal government, Steffen Seibert.

At the same time, the politician stressed that Berlin considers NATO as the basis of her and European security. He clarified that the German government’s “political goal” is to bring country’s defense spending up to 1.5% of GDP by 2024. Currently, this rate is 1.35%.
