The Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) is considering the possibility of transporting hydrogen via the Ukrainian GTS, after the exhaustion of gas fields. This was announced by the head of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC Serhiy Makogon in an interview with Liga.net.
“This is an innovative idea, and, of course, we are studying it. Europe is moving towards it and in 30-40 years, natural gas, as coal and oil, will not be presented in the energy balance anymore, being replaced by synthetic hydrogen and methane,” the message reads.
The technology of hydrogen transportation requires modernization of pipeline system, as the vast majority of pipes in Ukraine were built back in the 60-70s.
