The Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Tymofiy Mylovanov has said that about half of the state agricultural land was stolen with the use of various schemes during the years of country’s independence.

“Half of the state lands were essentially stolen over 30 years of Ukraine’s independence – by different methods and schemes. According to the documents, there were 1.3 million hectares, and now the expected inventory figure (we have not finished it yet) is about 600-700 thousand hectares,” the minister said.

The ministry claims that to the date, at least 500 thousand hectares of state agricultural land has been brought to the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre (StateGeoCadastre), Interfax-Ukraine reports.

At the same time, according to Deputy Minister Taras Vysotsky, data on 67 thousand hectares of agricultural land that are in use by state agricultural enterprises are also included in the cadastre, although according to the documents there should be 111.2 thousand hectares.

“The inventory is near to be completed, but we already see that we will reach 70 thousand hectares, maximum 75 thousand hectares,” the deputy minister emphasized.

In addition, the Ministry of Economic Development noted that 493 agricultural enterprises were transferred to its subordination, of which 254 are legal, 193 are in a state of cessation of activity, and seven are in non-government-controlled territory of Ukraine.

As The Journalist reported, farmland sale moratorium must be lifted before December 1.
