Hand over corrupt official and get 10%: Corruption whistleblower law enters into force in Ukraine

The corruption whistleblower law entered into force on January 1.

The law stipulates that whistleblower who has reported a corruption crime has the right to remuneration, the monetary amount of damage caused to the state is 5,000 or more times higher than the living wage for able-bodied persons established by law at the time the crime was committed. This is about bribes in the amount of more than UAH 10 million.

The whistleblower’s remuneration amounts to 10% of the monetary amount of the subject of a corruption offense or the amount of damage caused to the state by the crime after the conviction of the court. It cannot exceed 3,000 minimum wages, Ukrinform reports.

The accuser may report a corruption crime to the person directly authorized to work (internal channels), in the media or anonymously to the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, or to other bodies.

Anonymous messages will be checked only if they contain information about a particular person and facts that can be verified. The audit can last for 15 days, and if necessary, can be extended up to 30 days.
