The Ministry of Health of Ukraine explained how it will regulate prices for medicines from the National Medicines List, containing medications (427 drugs) on the first place hospitals buy.

It is known that the ministry will independently set maximum prices for medicines from the list.

“The relevant price register has been approved. It will help to avoid overpricing of medicines purchased by medical institutions independently through the Prozorro system. This means that the institutions will be able to provide even more free medicines for their patients during treatment in the hospital,” the department noted.

In addition, prices will be regulated in accordance with the reference pricing models by comparing the prices for medicines in five neighboring countries (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Latvia) adjusted for lower paying capacity of Ukrainians.

“The price limit for medicines from the list will be set on the basis of the median price (three most reference prices in the reference countries). Also, a 0.9 price reduction factor will be additionally applied to adjust the price, because the level of income and solvency in Ukraine is lower than in compared countries,” the ministry emphasized.

The register of maximum wholesale prices is valid from October 11 in accordance with the order by the Ministry of Health. The registry will be updated annually in January.
