On November 24, the authorized representative of the Hungarian government on cooperation between Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg region of Hungary and the Zakarpattia region Istvan Grezsa was denied entry to the territory of Ukraine due to the existing ban, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

“The decision to ban the entry of citizens of foreign states is made in accordance with the existing procedure in the legal field of Ukraine. One of the grounds for this is the establishment of facts of violation of the legislation of Ukraine by a foreigner. In the case of Mr. Istvan Grezhiy, there were facts of violation of the provisions of the Electoral Code of Ukraine, which prohibit foreigners from resorting to campaigning for one of the political forces in Ukraine – a participant in the electoral process, recorded in public space,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

Thus, the adopted decision does not concern the sphere of interstate relations. The ban on entry is associated exclusively with the actions of a particular citizen, which contain signs of an offense.

“In accordance with the established procedure, the decision to ban entry into Ukraine is announced to a foreigner at the checkpoint across the state border of Ukraine. The legislation of Ukraine does not provide for the possibility of informing a foreigner in advance about the decision to ban him from entering the territory of the Ukrainian state. Once again we urge foreign citizens visiting Ukraine, regardless of their positions, to respect the legislation of our state,” the diplomatic department noted.
