Incumbent President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson won the election with 92.2% of the vote, DW reports.
According to the official data released on the evening of June 28, 52-year-old Guðni Th. Jóhannesson was re-elected for a second term.
His opponent garnered 7.8% of the vote.
In Iceland, the president is elected for four years. He performs mainly representative functions, but he has the right to veto adopted laws and convene referenda.
The number of terms of his tenure is not limited.
