Polish officials have announced the start of construction of the canal, which will connect the Baltic Sea with the Vistula Lagoon and will allow 100-meters-length ships to enter the Polish port of Elbląg, bypassing Russia’s territorial waters, Radio Poland reports.
The European Commission asked Poland to provide detailed information on the canal construction through the Vistula Spit, and seek urgent talks with Polish representatives at the expert level.
The Brussels doubt that the shipping channel will have a slight impact on the Natura 2000 security sections, as was stated by the Polish authorities.
The European Commission was also interested in the details regarding creating of an artificial island in the Vistula Lagoon.
As The Journalist reported, uranium containing containers were found in Grand Canyon National Park museum.
