The European Parliament has recognised Venezuela’s self-declared interim president Juan Guaido as de facto head of state, in accordance with the country’s Constitution. It is reported by the press service of the European Parliament.

EU politicians voted 429 in favour to 104 against, at a special session in Brussels on Thursday to recognize Guaido as interim leader. 88 politicians abstained from voting.

“After recognition of Juan Guaido, the EU and its member states must also recognize representatives appointed by the legitimate authority,” the resolution says.

The decision of the European Parliament must be officially approved by the Council of the European Union.
As The Journalist reported, Juan Guaido held secret meetings with representatives of the Venezuelan military.
