Leaders of 28 EU member countries agreed to transfer EUR 500 million to the EU Trust Fund for Africa, in connection with illegal migration.

This is stated in the conclusion on the results of the first day of the summit of the heads of state and government of the euro area in Brussels, which was published on the EU Council website.

«The European Council agrees on launching the second tranche of the Facility for Refugees in Turkey and at the same time on transferring EUR 500 million from the European Development Fund reserve to the EU Trust Fund for Africa», – the message stated.

In addition, EU member states called for contributions to the EU Trust Fund for Africa in order to filling it resources.

«Overcoming the migration problem requires a partnership with Africa, aimed for a significant socio-economic transformation of the African continent, based on the principles and objectives identified by the Africa’s «Agenda 2063». The European Union and its member countries must respond to this challenge», – the conclusion said.
