Iran may withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in response to the strengthening of Washington’s sanctions, said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“The Islamic Republic can choose from a large number of options, and the country’s authorities are studying them. A withdrawal from the NPT is one of them,” Zarif stressed.

Earlier Tehran spoke out about the possibility of breaking the NPT in response to the Washington actions, DW writes. In May 2018, the US withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran (signed in 2015), which provided for Tehran to take a number of steps to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

Washington resumed the sanctions against Iran and demanded that the allied states stop buying Iranian oil under the threat of sanctions for the purchasing companies.

As The Journalist reported, the United States intends to impose a ban on other countries imported oil from Iran.
