Iraqi Defense Minister pays official visit to Ukraine for first time

On September 3, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran and the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Iraq Lieutenant General Juma Inad Saadoun Al-Juburi, within the official visit of a delegation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine, held bilateral negotiations in Kyiv, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reports.

“During the negotiations, the parties emphasized the significant potential of partnership in exchange of experience in military operations, cooperation in the area of ​​military education. The parties also exchanged information on the state of security in Ukraine and the Republic of Iraq, and assured of support for the sustainable development of friendly relations between states,” the message reads.

The ministry noted that this is the first visit of the head of the defense department of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine, and emphasizes the desire to develop comprehensive cooperation in the defense sphere and determine the priority areas of bilateral cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres.

Following the meeting, the Defense Ministers of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq in the field of military cooperation.

“The signing of the Memorandum will allow to continue mutually beneficial cooperation between the defense departments of the two countries, strengthen partnerships and ensure the implementation of projects in areas of mutually beneficial interest,” the ministry added.
