From 2019, Israel has officially left the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This was reported by The Times of Israel.
The Israeli ambassador to the UN said that UNESCO is constantly rewriting history.
“UNESCO is a body that continually rewrites history, including by erasing the Jewish connection to Jerusalem,” said Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon.
According to Danon, the organization is "manipulated by Israel’s enemies."
On December 29, 2017, Israel, following the United States, notified UNESCO of its withdrawal from its membership.
In early December 2017, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and promised to transfer the embassy from Tel Aviv there. On December 21, the UN General Assembly adopted by an overwhelming majority a resolution calling on Washington to reconsider its decision.
