Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Kateryna Slyadneva a deputy chief of the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service.

The relevant decree #553/2019 dated July 24 was published on the presidential website.

“To appoint Kateryna Anatoliyivna Slyadneva as the deputy chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine,” the document says.

It is noted that Slyadneva is “a professional lawyer who worked in the prosecutor’s office; for the last year and a half she was responsible for legal support of the service.

Slyadneva would be responsible for maintaining relations with the authorities, legal and financial support of the activities of the Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as social protection of intelligence officers.

Slyadneva also led a working group to draft a new law on intelligence, which should eliminate the shortcomings of existing regulations, clearly delineate the powers and responsibilities of state intelligence agencies, and create a legislative framework for practical interaction with NATO and the EU partner services.
