Since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, 45,000 people have left the peninsula. At the same time, the occupying state moves its own population there, contrary to the Geneva Conventions and Protocols. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kislitsa during a speech at the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.

Kislitsa presented a draft resolution “Situation with human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine”. The text of the document mentions numerous violations of human rights on the peninsula.

“Systemic repression, selective detention, persecution, extrajudicial executions and torture have become a daily reality in Crimea … 45,000 people have already left Crimea, and the occupying state is moving its own population to Crimea, contrary to the Geneva Conventions and Protocols,” reads the message.
