Labor market needs in Ukraine will affect vocational education reform

On November 9, the leadership of the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, the State Employment Center, the National Qualifications Agency, representatives of the International Labor Organization met with representatives of the U4Skills: Best Skills for Modern Ukraine program, the press service of the Ministry of Economy said.

“This is a joint program of the EU and its member states – Germany, Finland, Poland and Estonia to support the reform of vocational education in Ukraine in order to bring training in line with the requirements of the labor market,” the ministry said.

The implementation of the program is carried out in cooperation with central executive authorities, local governments, employers and other interested stakeholders in order to determine as accurately as possible the sectoral and quantitative demand for various specialists in the regions of Ukraine.

“Now the program is being introduced in seven pilot regions: Vinnytsia, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, Lviv, Mykolaiv and Chernivtsi regions,” the ministry said.

According to the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Yulia Sviridenko, Ukraine is interested in partnership for the effective construction of an integrated system for analyzing the labor market, further integrating the data obtained with the state order and updating the areas for training specialists in accordance with the current and future need of the labor market in country.

“The reform of vocational education, among other things, is focused on creating Centers of Excellence with modern equipment and technologies for training. They will become hubs for best reform practices and share their experiences with other institutions across the country. EU4Skills will be held during 2019-2023,” the message says.
