Latvian citizen on trial accused of fight for LNR

Riga District Court (Latvia) sentenced Daugavpils resident Artem Skripnik to five years in prison for fighting for Kremlin-backed LNR militants in Eastern Ukraine (Donbas), LETA reports.

In addition, according to the court decision, Skripnik will be under the test supervision for two years after serving the term. By its decision, the Riga Court overturned the acquittal of August 4, 2017 by the Vidzeme court of Riga.

The investigation notes that Skripnik was involved in military operations in Luhansk in the spring, 2015, and taught the separatists to handle firearms.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Latvia noted that the actions of the convict were contrary to international law and the UN Charter.
