The country’s chief sanitary doctor Viktor Lyashko said that Ukraine’s participation in the World Health Organization (WHO) program on global access to coronavirus vaccine will provide access to vaccine in volumes that will cover 20% of the population. He wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“We have just completed another online meeting on Ukraine’s participation in the COVAX mechanism – a mechanism for global access to coronavirus vaccines. By participating in this mechanism, the Government of Ukraine will be able to provide access to a licensed safe and effective immunological drug when it becomes available to respond to the pandemic,” Lyashko said.

He noted that 20% of the Ukrainian population will receive the coronavirus vaccine at an affordable price or free of charge, which will reduce the burden on the budget to immunize other high-risk groups.

It is reported that currently 139 vaccines are at the preclinical studies stage, and 25 are already under clinical trials, 6 of which are as close to practical use as possible and are in the 3rd stage of trials.

Lyashko noted that it is still impossible to determine what kind of vaccine will be, but vaccines that require two administrations (with repeated administration after 3-4 weeks) are considered leaders.
