Today, March 26, Ukrainians are celebrating the Day of the National Guard of Ukraine, UNN reports.
In 2015, the Interior Ministry troops were reorganized into the National Guard, and the Day of the National Guard of Ukraine was set on March 26.
The National Guard protects life, rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens, society and the state, protects constitutional system of Ukraine and the integrity of its territory. It consists of employees of compulsory military conscription and contract servicemen. Today there are six operational-territorial associations in Ukraine. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his congratulations to the military stressed that the National Guard of Ukraine was the first to defend the immunity of the state, repulsed the Russian aggression against Ukraine and substituted the fraternal shoulder to the Armed Forces, which had only just begun to revive.
As The Journalist reported, Poroshenko said that it is again prestigious to be a military man in Ukraine.
