MEPs did not elect its president in first round of voting

On July 3, at the session of the European Parliament, the deputies did not agree on the election of the President of the European Parliament. Evropeiska Pravda reports about it.

The voting took place according to the secret procedure; to select a candidate it is necessary to score 50% + 1 vote.

The representative of the “Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats” Union David Sassoli (Italy) gained 325 votes, out of 332 needed.

Jan Zahradil (the Czech Republic) scored 162 votes. Jan represents the European Conservatives and Reformists fraction.

Ska Keller from the German Green – European Free Alliance faction received 133 votes, and the Spaniard Gray from the European United Left / Left-Green of the North left-wing political group – 42.

Today, in the second round the same four candidates are going to participate.
