A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mariana Betsa said that if Hungary does not withdraw its consul from Berehove (Transcarpathian region), Ukraine has full right to expel him independently.

«We proposed to the Hungarian side to recall her consul from Berehove in connection with his violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and the legislation of Ukraine. According to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, any foreign diplomat or consul must respect the laws of the host country. In this case, we proceed from the assumption that this person violated the legislation of Ukraine,» – UNIAN news agency quotes the Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying.

«If the Hungarian side does not withdraw its representative, then we [Ukraine] have full right to withdraw this diplomat or consul on our own, guided by the Vienna Convention,» – the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added.

At the same time, according to Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine intends to expel the Hungarian consul from Berehove during this week, if Budapest does not withdraw him.

As The Journalist reported, Zakarpattia prosecutor’s office investigates issuing Hungarian passports as state treason.
