Miners block highways in Kirovohrad region, Ukraine

The miners are demanding to pay off wage arrears and to take the enterprise out of downtime.

Uranium miners in Kirovohrad region have begun an indefinite protest and are blocking roads. This was announced December 21, by the head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners Mykhailo Volynets on Facebook.

“An indefinite protest action has begun by the labor collectives of the Smolynska, Novokostiantynivska and Inhulska mines (SE VostGOK). With demands to pay off UAH 83 million of wage arrears and bring the enterprise out of idle mode, the employees of the state-owned enterprise block the highways in the Kirovohrad region,” he wrote.

He noted that since December 7, the structural subdivisions of SE “VostGOK”, the 5,000-strong labor collective of the enterprise have been put into downtime.
