The Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel said that the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKP) did not support the reduction of maximum price limits on the electricity market. He wrote about this on Facebook.
“The members of the commission […] did not support the reduction of the maximum price limits on the day-ahead market and the intraday market (price caps regulation), because they see no reason for this,” Orzhel wrote.
The minister noted that the average coal price fell by 30%, and the dollar exchange rate by 13%. At the same time, the hryvnia exchange rate is taking into account when forming forecasted wholesale electricity price.
Orzhel added that ignoring by NKREKP of factors which could reduce the price of electricity affects not only industry, but also the final cost of goods and services produced and bought by the population.
The Minister noted that prices should be revised and changed in accordance with market conditions, and added that the premature launch of a new market is the reason for the current electricity market situation.
