The hundreds of US health workers have been accused for taking part in healthcare frauds, the US Justice Department said.

According to the Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the US Justice Department charged against 601 people, including 76 doctors, 23 pharmacists, 19 nurses, and other medical personnel.

For example, one doctor allegedly defrauded Medicare of more than $112 million by distributing 2.2 million unnecessary doses of drugs like oxycodone and fentanyl.

In another case, 13 defendants in one fraud scheme allegedly defrauded US taxpayers and State Budget of more than $126 million, much of which was intended to pay for health care for US troops.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the epidemic caused more than 42,000 deaths from opioid overdoses in the United States in 2016.

As «The Journalist» reported, world production of opioids, cocaine and synthetic drugs reached a record scale.
