Peatland fires were registered on the territory of five regions in Ukraine. In general, peat fire covered an area of ​​about 9 hectares, the Government Portal reported.

“Six peat smoldering centers of a total area of ​​9.68 hectares are being extinguished in the Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv and Cherkasy oblasts,” the report says.

At least 79 rescuers and 26 special equipment units are involved to eliminate the fire.

The government, in coordination with local authorities, will resolve air pollution issues.

“The main task of local authorities in the fight against car emissions is to develop public transport infrastructure. Monitoring of compliance with environmental laws will be strengthened. These measures are among the priorities of the Government’s Activity Program,” the report said.

As The Journalist reported, modern air quality monitoring system will be created in Kyiv.
