National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine has received an official offer from Russia’s Gazprom to extend gas transit contract from January 2020.

This was stated by Naftogaz Executive Director of Yuriy Vitrenko.

“Finally, we received by fax an offer from Gazprom, which all the media have been writing about (including the content of this offer). We will carefully study it and provide a constructive answer in the near future,” Vitrenko said.

Vitrenko added that Ukraine will be a reliable partner for Europe in gas transit in full compliance with European rules.

On the eve of November 18, Gazprom sent an official offer to Naftogaz to extend the existing contract or conclude a new agreement on gas transit through Ukraine for 1 year, taking into account the forecast demand of European buyers for gas for 2020.

The Gazprom proposal stated that the necessary condition for the extension of an existing contract or the conclusion of a new contract is the both parties drop all mutual claims in international arbitration and terminate all legal proceedings; Ukraine has to annul the decision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to impose on Gazprom a fine for allegedly “violation of economic competition”; Naftogaz must withdraw its application with European Commission on initiating an investigation against Gazprom.

As The Journalist reported, Naftogaz wins arrest on accounts of Gazprom yen bond issuer.
